'Marvel's Midnight Suns' is a card-based tactical RPG

When Firaxis announced Sun Midnight Marvel last week, Jake Solomon’s studio promised to share “zero mechanics” with XCOM, but said a little other thing about how the gameplay system would work. Now we have a better idea after the trailer distributed by the developer on Thursday.

In short, the midnight sun has more similarity with the deck-building game like killing the peak of the tower and Griftland than XCOM. The battle was still revealed for several rounds, but instead of each hero brought the same set of abilities for each battle, you must draw a card every turn.

Some provide direct attacks, while others allow you to position the enemy. According to Solomon, the battlefield and the enemy position plays an important role in the middle of the sun because you force your opponents colliding with obstacles and each other to damage it. When you progress through the game, you will have the opportunity to update your card to make it stronger and make new synergies between different heroes.

After the disclosure, Firaxis clarified on Twitter, you do not need to buy a booty or pay another microtransaction to unlock additional cards. However, midnight sun will include character skin that you can buy, even though it doesn’t affect the balance of the game.

Outside the battle, there is a hub called the monastery where your character is made specifically, hunters, can interact with other members of the midnight sun, including Blade, Strange and Iron Man’s doctor. And like in Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Series, it is something you want to do because it will make them a more effective team on the battlefield.

Midnight Suns Publisher 2k plans to release games to Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, PS5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S in March 2022.
