Genesis has revealed its road map for electrification, and while Hyundai’s luxury arm might be slow to embrace EV, the plan is not moving forward. In 2025, Genesis said today, all new vehicles will be fully electrical, even though it will divide his attention between two different drivetrain technologies.
On the one hand, there will be a battery-electric vehicle, or BEVS. Launched first in the form of GV60 genesis, the first electric car of a car maker based on the Hyundai E-GMP group of global modular electricity platform, is expected to be launched in the second half of 2021.
However, Genesis also looks for fuel cells for other routes into electrification. Use hydrogen as their source of fuel, and only emit water as a by-product vehicle, the Genesis fuel cell model will have a higher power output than the existing version, car maker. Hydrogen, although supported by a handful of car companies in the model for several years now, has struggled to get a partial traction because of the lack of fuel filling infrastructure.
All the same, it does have several advantages over Bev. Most importantly of them is the time of refueling: Usually, it takes around 5-6 minutes to fully load the hydrogen tank in fuel cell vehicles, much faster than the time needed to fully charge EV even on the DC fast charger. Even so, Genesis said it also saw the development of the next generation Li-Ion battery technology, which could provide more and more efficient performance.
If all plans, Genesis will be a 100 percent zero emissions vehicle brand in 2030: In short, the gas model that still exists will disappear at that time. By 2035, the car maker targets to be a neutral carbon.
However, electrification is not just a drivetrain type switch. Genesis said it also saw the use of advantages and possibly the EV platform attached to provide different styles and functionality options for the cars. The stage door, for example, can see the hinged back door and no b-pillar center, a common theme in the concept of a car that has never managed to arrive at production vehicles.
Rotating the swivel chair, meanwhile, along with a new heating system that Genesis is inspired by Korea’s “ondol” warming is also being explored. The new high loyalty audio system is also blessed.
Although the brand is relatively new, Genesis has been aggressive in encouraging its style differentiation. The brave and distinctive SUV, like the GV80, has helped there, along with the willingness to risk different aesthetics in the sedan segment with a model like G80.
