US Nuclear Submarine Damaged In Underwater Collison In Asia

The US nuclear submarine was damaged after reaching an unknown object when operating under water in Asia, the US Navy said Thursday.
USS Connecticut, a nuclear-powered fast-powered submarine, “said while submerged in the afternoon of October 2, while operating in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region,” Navy said in a statement.

News of the USNI also said the submarine operates in the South China Sea, where the US Navy has tried to challenge the disputed Chinese territorial claims on small islands, coral reefs, and outcrops.

The Navy said the extent to which damage was being examined and the incident was investigated.

“Submarines remain in safe and stable conditions. The factory and the nuclear propulsion room of USS Connecticut is not affected and remains fully operational,” he said.
