Brendan “Playerunknown” Greene, better known as Pubg Creator: Battlefield (previously known as Playunknown’s battlefield) is independent. His studio productions Playerunknown turned from the owner of Pubg Krafton, who will hold a minority stake in the company.
“I’m so grateful to everyone in Pubg and Krafton to have a chance on me and for the opportunities they have given me in the last four years,” Greene said in a statement. “Today, I am delighted to spend the next step on my trip to create the type of experience I’ve considered for years. Once again, I am grateful for everyone in Krafton for supporting my plans and I will have more to reveal more about our project at a later date. “
Greene left the Core Pubg team in 2019 and went from Seoul (where Krafton is based) in Amsterdam to lead the Division of Pubg Special Projects. The PlayerunkNown productions are “exploring the necessary systems to allow a massive scale in open world games,” according to a press release. The only game shown on the Studio website is Prologue, for which Greene has published an atmospheric teaser at the end of 2019, so it seems that he has taken this game with him.
The departure of Greene de Krafton is notable, since he is actually the father of the kind of Royal Battle who has dominated the game landscape in recent years. Before Pubg, Greene arrived at the prominence as a royal battle mods developer for ARMA 2 and H1Z1.
